The Massillon Museum will offer the “Broom Maker’s Apprentice” workshop by Hale Farm and Village on Saturday, April 27 from 1-3 p.m. in the museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room.

The Hale Farm and Village broom maker uses every last scrap of broom corn to make brushes and brooms to keep the farm tidy. Workshop participants will try the smallest and tallest brooms, experiment with natural materials, and make their own duster to take home.

Open to all ages, the workshop fee is $20 and $18 for Massillon Museum members. Materials are included. Preregistration is required by visiting or calling the museum. A guardian to younger participants or a guest of a registered participant may attend for free, but only one broom can be made per registration fee.

The workshop complements the NEA Big Read and the Massillon Museum’s 2019 book choice, “Burning Bright,” by Ron Rash, a compilation of 12 stories based in Appalachia.

In addition to the NEA grant, funding is provided by Massillon/North Canton Elks 2029 and Rotary Club of Massillon. The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and ArtsinStark.

The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way E. (Ohio Route 172) in downtown Massillon. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free. Free parking is available on adjacent streets and in nearby city lots.

For more information call the museum at 330-833-4061 or visit www.massillonmuseum.org.
