Musical perfection Dominic Greco Band hits all the right notes at Trumpet in the Land

It was not your average Trumpet in the Land performance. There were no Indians on stage, missionaries or even horses last Sunday night at the Schoenbrunn Amphitheater.

However, one could say that the New Philadelphia hills were alive with music. Nearly 90 members of the Dominic Greco Band performed a two-hour concert with musical selections ranging from patriotic melodies to marches to even Broadway show tunes. There were trumpets in the land and they were blowing but it wasn't what Paul Green had written about years ago when he penned the classic drama chronicling Tuscarawas County's early history. However, the music was just what an estimated 600 audience members came to hear.

For director Frederick Delphia, the setting of the outdoor amphitheater, away from all the distractions at a typical concert, was an added benefit for the band and audience members.

"It is a beautiful outdoor setting. The audience has just been given the unique opportunity to hear the band without some of the distractions that are a natural part of playing outdoor concerts," he stated.

The Sunday evening performance also showcased the Trumpet in the Land facilities and for some audience members, it was the first time they had visited the New Philadelphia amphitheater. After seeing the facilities, one of Tuscarawas County's hidden gems, Trumpet in the Land manager Margaret Bonamico hopes people will return for a Trumpet in the Land or White Savage performance.

With the Dominic Greco Band's 2010 season winding down, there are two concerts remaining: Saturday, August 14, at 7 p.m., for the "Music of Italy" at the Tuscarawas County Italian-American Festival in Dover and Friday, August 20, at 7 p.m., for the "Season Finale" at the Tuscora Park Amphitheater as part of Summer Showcase. A rain date for the August 20 concert has been set for August 21 at 7 p.m.
