Dennison Railroad Depot Museum has announced the 2016 Lucille Nussdorfer Tuscarawas County Woman of the Year Award finalists. The award is given to a woman who makes a significant impact in her community. Lucille Nussdorfer started the WWII Canteen at the Dennison Depot and served more than 1.3 million soldiers from 1942-46. These women embody the volunteering spirit just like Nussdorfer. Each finalist will receive a basket of gifts, and the winner will receive a necklace by Alan Rodriguez of the Rodriguez’ House of Stones. The following women were selected as finalists from the nominees: Ronna Coventry of New Philadelphia is being nominated for her diligent work in helping sew school costumes, alter sports uniforms and make veils for the altar at Immaculate Conception Church. She has volunteered extensively at church and school festivals. Coventry helps feed the hungry by preparing and serving lunches through the Salvation Army and has lead the TCC Alumni in hosting the Senior Class Breakfast. Lois Muster of Uhrichsville is being nominated for her many years of service at the Twin City Christian Service Center Food Pantry including more than 25 years on the board of trustees, one of the founding members and has been the executive director for more than 20 years. She also has been instrumental in the movement of the food pantry to multiple locations. Pam Sprowls of Uhrichsville is being nominated for her volunteerism with a multitude of organizations in the county. Some of these include co-chairing the Job Connection event of Buckeye Career Center, volunteering with the Christmas Mitten Tree through Park Christian Church, the Back to School Block Party in Uhrichsville and her annual Mums for Cause plant sale for the Rainbow Connection. Jan Thomas of Gnadenhutten is being nominated for her work and making significant contributions in education, youth development and hospital volunteering. Thomas has volunteered at Trinity Hospital Twin City since 1993 and has been vice president of the auxiliary board for more than 10 years. When building the hospital, she helped design the new coffee bar and gift shop. She also participates in the Merry Hatters program through the Gnadenhutten Women’s Club. Diana Youngen of Sugarcreek is being nominated for her extensive work with the Alpine Hills Museum in Sugarcreek. For more than five years Youngen has volunteered with the museum to keep its doors open. She has been involved with the annual Swiss Festival, drawing thousands of people to visit Tuscarawas County.
