The Holmes County Republican Executive Committee met Monday evening, Jan. 30, to consider an appointment to the Holmes County Board of Elections. Incumbent board member Wes Schmucker, whose term expires Feb. 28, and local attorney Andrew Hyde were nominated, with Schmucker receiving the majority of the 24 votes cast. Schmucker is therefore reappointed to a four-year term on the board of elections, beginning March 1. Schmucker lives in Berlin Township and owns StarLaser, Inc., manufacturing custom wood plaques and other products. The county board of elections is composed of four members: Two appointed by the Republican Executive Committee, and two appointed by the Democratic Executive Committee. All members serve four-year terms. The board of elections is responsible for maintaining voter registration records, and supervising fair and orderly elections of public officials and issues in the county.
