Shue is Friends of the Dalton Library featured artist
Tim Shue is the Friends of the Dalton Library featured summer artist. An exhibit of his folk art opened with a public reception.
Shue is better known to area residents as the driving force behind men’s a cappella ensemble, Sonnenberg Station, and the acoustic band, Honeytown. He has been the choral music director at Central Christian High School in Kidron for 28 years.
His interest in greenwood carving (using fresh-cut green wood) has evolved and expanded over the years. But you won’t find any power tools in his workshop.
“Greenwood carving is all hands-on and quiet,” Shue said. “It’s just you, taking on a piece of wood.”
Shue creates a variety of items — spoons, bowls, rustic utensil racks, tall stools made with whimsical wooden legs — no two exactly alike. He sells some of his work at Local Roots in Wooster but emphasized he never takes commissions. “I make what I want to make,” he said.
Shue’s creations will remain on display in the Dalton Library adult reading room through the end of September.
