The Tuscarawas County Community Foundation has awarded $180,000 in grants through the Max T. Miller donor-advised fund. The grants are crucial to the operation of many local charities and agencies. The recipients and amounts are as follows: RTY, $30,000; Trumpet in the Land, $25,000; Dress-A-Child, $25,000; Muskingum Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross, $25,000; Grace Lutheran Church, $25,000; Rainbow Connection, $10,000; Hospice of Tuscarawas County, $10,000; Quaker Foundation, $10,000; Buckeye Career Center, $10,000; Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community, $10,000. Miller, who died in November, was a major supporter of and contributor to the foundation’s endowment fund. He had directed that these local organizations continue to benefit from his contributions. The foundation also has awarded a $25,000 grant to the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts. Center officials had made a special request for assistance with the center’s mortgage payments. The foundation was established in 2001 as a community endowment fund. The foundation accepts tax-deductible donations and in turn awards scholarships to students and grants to community projects and organizations. The purpose of the foundation is to promote philanthropic giving that in turn supports public, educational, charitable or artistic purposes.
