Wayne County Career Expo is April 25
On Friday, April 25, job seekers will have the opportunity to connect with over 50 area employers at the annual Wayne County Career Expo. The event, free for those looking for work, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Akron Wayne College, 1901 Smucker Rd. in Orrville. The Expo will be located in the multipurpose room on the lower floor of the student life building. There will be signs directing attendees to the location.
Gregory Hall, workforce supervisor with OhioMeansJobs, said the event is for anyone interested in a new job. Employers will be from Wayne and surrounding counties with openings in both full and part-time work.
"Job seekers of all ages are encouraged to attend,” Hall said.
Business casual dress is recommended, and Hall suggested attendees bring up to 20 copies of their resume. There will be interview rooms available if a company is interested in conducting an interview with a job seeker.
Akron University Wayne College is a co-sponsor with OhioMeansJobs. The Expo has been held annually for over 10 years.
What is OhioMeansJobs? Hall said it’s a career one-stop.
“We serve job seekers with resume and job searching assistance and can sponsor education and training for in-demand jobs,” he said. “And we serve employers by hosting hiring events, posting job openings and can sponsor training for employees.”
The agency is funded by the federal and state governments. Hall said OhioMeansJobs was established in 2014 by the passage of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. Before that, it operated as part of the American Job Center Network under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.
OhioMeansJobs serves everyone in Wayne County — residents and businesses. Services such as resume or job search assistance are available to all.
“Other services, such as sponsoring training or education, have eligibility criteria to meet,” said Hall.
There are still a few spots remaining for employers who would like to attend the event. Employers must register in advance for a booth, and there is a fee. Job seekers are free and may register in advance to save time at the event. Find the registration links at https://everybodyworks.org/2024/02/21/ohiomeansjobs-career-expo-2025/.
