The Wayne County Community Federal Credit Union (WCCFCU) is helping restock the depleted shelves of its local food pantries to help community members in need. During November, the credit union is collecting non-perishable food items and monetary contributions, which will be donated to several food pantries and food banks in the Wayne County community. Dozens of credit unions across Ohio are also participating in the food drives and contributing thousands of pounds of food as part of the sixth annual Ohio Credit Union Food Drive. Non-perishable food items requested by local food banks and charities include cereal, tuna, canned fruit and vegetables, infant formula, canned meat, boxed juice, all-in-one meals, or other items to help neighbors in need. “WCCFCU recognizes the tough times that so many Ohioans face and we’re working to do what we can to help our neighbors in need,” said Chris Blough, CEO of the Wayne County Community FCU. “Credit unions are locally-owned financial cooperatives. We pride ourselves in helping people and giving back to our local communities. Our participation in this statewide food drive is another way that we live our philosophy of people helping people,” said Blough. Credit unions are not-for-profit financial institutions that are owned and democratically controlled by their members. Credit unions provide savings, loans, and other consumer financial services to their members, who enjoy lower loan rates, better rates on savings, lower fees, and excellent service. For the past 21 years, credit unions topped all other financial institutions in consumer satisfaction ratings in the American Banker/Gallup Consumer survey. Credit unions lead the ratings for staff friendliness and courtesy, speed of loan decisions, deposit rates, and improvements from year-to-year in service quality.
