Albert Eugene Martin, 90, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a recent period of declining health.

A son of the late George Henry and Anna Marie (McNutt) Martin, Gene was born April 16, 1928 at Mineral City, Ohio.

On Jan. 22, 1949, Gene married the former Mildred Marie Voorhes in the First Assembly of God Church at New Philadelphia. The couple raised four children, Carole, Duane, Phyllis and Randy and celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to Millie’s passing on April 21, 2010.

Gene was a longtime truck driver and eventually retired from Signal Delivery. Being a truck driver, Gene never knew a stranger. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union. He was an avid fan of NASCAR but most of all he cherished his family and spending time with them at various gatherings.

He is survived by his children, Carole (Andy) Ronald, Phyllis (Stan) Millbaugh and Randy (Cheryl) Martin all of New Philadelphia and Duane (Sharon) Martin of Florida; his grandchildren, Michael Ronald, Stacey (Todd) Dessecker, Erica (Doug) Redman, Ryan Martin, Shawna Everett, Chad Martin, Brandon (Rachael) Martin, Brittney Martin and Marcy Martin; his great-grandchildren, Corey, Jacob, Joey and Alex Ronald, Amber (Taylor) McDaniel, Carson Everett-Bible, Brexton Martin and LilAnna and Quinton Redman; two sisters, Donna Linard and Doris (Jim) Haas; two brothers, George (Toni) Martin and Jim (Chris) Martin; sisters-in-law, Judy Martin, Alma Mae (Dave) Mason and Betty (Jack) Hale; a brother-in-law, Jerry Zurcher and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Ruth (Sonny) Martin and Charlene Zurcher; three brothers, Ed, Gerald and Dwight Martin; a son-in-law, Lynn Everett; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Mabel Voorhees; brother-in-law, Gene Linard and sister-in-law, Patricia Martin.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Gene’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Community Hospice, Interim and Hennis Care Centre at Dover for their care and compassion for Gene and his family during his final days.
