Anna Mae Nixon, 70, a longtime resident of Dover and formerly of Bergholz, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 following an extended illness.
Anna Mae retired in 2003 as a kindergarten teacher at Bolivar Elementary where she taught for nearly 29 years.
Born Feb. 17, 1943 in Steubenville, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Virgie (Polen) Mader. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Spider Mader.
Anna Mae previously attended St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover. She was active in the Democratic Women in Tuscarawas County and volunteered during numerous campaigns. She enjoyed computers and was an avid reader, having read more than 400 books on her Kindle.
She will be sadly missed by her family, including her husband of 41 years, Fred Nixon, whom she married Nov. 18, 1972; two daughters, Kerry (Glenn) Schlub of Miamisburg and Sunny Nixon of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Melissa and Adam Schlub; two brothers, Larry (Alberta) Mader of Bergholz and Jeffrey (Christina) Mader of Amsterdam, and two sisters, Pat and Kelly Mader both of Steubenville.
A celebration of Anna Maes life will be held at Dover Burial Park, Saturday, April 26, 2014 beginning at 1 p.m. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center until 4 p.m. Those unable to attend or who may wish to express a fond memory of Anna Mae can sign the online guestbook by visiting the obituaries and flowers link on the funeral home website at www.tolandherzig.com.
