Bernice Wenona Burg, 91, of Newcomerstown, died Feb. 4, 2010, at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
Bernice was born August 5, 1918, in Dennison, to the late Walter H. and Martha Ellen McCoun. She was a homemaker all her adult life and served as a nurses aide at the former Valley Manor (Morning View) Nursing Home, New Philadelphia, for several years before her retirement in 1983. She also was employed at the former Moore Enameling, West Lafayette, during WWII. She was a member of Victory Assembly of God Church, Newcomerstown, and the Womens Missionary Society. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and fishing.
Surviving are brothers, Floyd L. (Thelma) McCoun of Newcomerstown and Donald L. (Nancy) McCoun of West Lafayette; sisters-in-law, Nellie McCoun and Lucille McCoun, both of Newcomerstown, Mary McCoun of Pataskala, and Vita Davenport McCoun of Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, great-great-nieces and -nephews; and her special friend and neighbor, Donna J. Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil M. Burg, whom she married in 1935; sisters, Marie E. Stein, Evelyn Toland Gibbons, and Ora B. Burg of Ragersville; and brothers, Herbert A., Roger E., Walter J., and Charles R. McCoun.
Services were held Feb. 9, 2010, at Ourant Funeral Home, with Pastor Brent Heishman officiating. Burial was in St. Jacobs Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
