David Crowl obituary

                        
David L. Crowl, 71, of Dover, died Feb. 3, 1010, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born Nov. 22, 1938, in Minerva, David was the son of the late Harold M. and Eva M. Crowl. He graduated from Minerva High School in 1956, attended Ohio University, and took classes in the U.S. Army Language School while he was in the military. He started his military career in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for 18 months, and later joined the U.S. Army. He was a cryptologist and linguist for the Vietnamese and was part of the Branch of Intelligence ASA. He was honorably discharged in 1960. David and his wife, Darlene, co-owned the former Crowl Investigation and Security Services, Marietta, from 1986 until 2002. He loved golfing, playing cards, and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. David and Darlene were active with the Pioneer City Friends of Greyhounds, Marietta, and together found homes for 207 retired racers. Surviving are daughters, Denise J. (David) Bowsher of Findlay and Brenda L. (Eugene “Yogi”) Grasselli of New Philadelphia; stepson, David Wallace of Dover; stepdaughter, Shawn R. Tylke (companion, John Hamilton) of Canal Fulton; nine grandchildren, Eric and Kyle Bowsher of Findlay, Santi and Nicole Grasselli of New Philadelphia, Steven L. Tylke of Dennison, Brittany Smeyres of Massillon, Jimmy Kaser of Canal Fulton, David (Amanda) Wallace of Kimbolton, and Rachael Wallace of Dover; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert H. (Doris) Crowl and Clyde W. (Sabra Jo) Crowl, both of North Carolina, and Francis L. (Margery) Crowl of Minerva; special friends, Sue Gamba of Dover and David Hipp of New Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Crowl; sisters, Helen E. Czerpak and Theresa J. Brim; and an infant brother, Henry Clark Crowl. In honoring David’s wishes, cremation will take place at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover.
