Donald R. Koppes, age 93 of Rittman, died early Tuesday morning, April 16, 2019, at Autumnwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rittman, following an extended illness.

Donald was born April 9, 1926, in Wadsworth to the late Henry and Edna Koppes and served as a Seaman 2nd Class in the United States Navy during World War II. After his first wife Juanita died in 1986, he married Ruth Angelo on Sept. 17, 1987, and was married to her until her death in 2005.

Donald was employed by Barefoot Sole in Wadsworth for many years, retiring in 1992.

Donald was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rittman, where he enjoyed ushering and maintaining the grounds of the church. He loved flowers and working in the flower beds, and he enjoyed watching birds until he lost his vision.

Surviving are two step-sons, Tom (Marge) Huffman of Burbank and Michael (Robin) Angelo of Chesapeake, Virginia; four step-daughters, Marge Angelo of Berea, Betty Marie (Joe) Swift of Nesbit, Massachusetts, Mary Lou (Darrel) Zuercher of Orrville and Josephine (Ron) Ressler of North Lawrence; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Barbara) Koppes of Wadsworth; and sister, Joan Carroll of Nevada.

Donald was preceded in death by two wives; his parents; sisters, Ruth Baisinger and Helen Koppes; and step-son, Bill Huffman.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 18 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 9560 Acme Road, Seville, with Pastor Mike Lamar officiating.
