Donna Faye Gordon, 83, of New Philadelphia, died Feb. 10, 2010, at Union Hospital, Dover. A daughter of the late Emmett and Gladys Newton, Donna was born at home near Roswell. She attended Midvale schools, then graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1944. Donna led a very active life. She was an avid volunteer and devoted much of her time to Hospice of Tuscarawas County’s Browse & Buy store and to Cats ‘N’ Us. When not serving as a volunteer, she spent much of her time in the company of good friends. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Ann (Michael) Govanello of New Philadelphia; a grandson, Steve Govanello of Cleveland; two great-grandchildren, Michael Govanello of Michigan and Emily Gordon of New Philadelphia; and two of her dear friends, Helen and Ed Sarna of New Philadelphia. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. “Sam” Gordon, whom she married in 1948. In keeping with Donna’s wishes, services will be private and interment will take place alongside her husband in Zoar Cemetery.
