Fred Nixon, age 77 of Dover, died at Hennis Care Center in Dover on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018.

Born in Dover on Feb. 19, 1941, Fred was the son of the late Keller and Margaret (Tucker) Nixon. He graduated from Dover High School with the class of 1959. He joined the United States Army on Jan. 15, 1964, and served our country until Jan. 15, 1967.

On Nov. 18, 1972, Fred married Anna Mae Mader, who preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2014. He also was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ronald and Dan Nixon, and his sister, Betsy Nixon.

Fred worked as a firefighter for the City of Dover for over 28 years. He was the captain and later became chief of the Dover Fire Department for 15 years. He retired in 1997.

Fred was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover, the New Philadelphia Elks and the Lions Club.

Fred will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Kerry (husband, Glenn) Schlub of Miamisburg, Ohio and Sunny Nixon (husband, Aaron Cornell) of Cleveland; his grandchildren, Melissa and Adam Schlub; several sisters- and brothers-in-law; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In honoring Fred’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 17 at noon with Pastor Thomas Dunkle officiating. Inurnment will take place at Dover Burial Park. Friends can call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 17.
