Gopal Prasad Agarwal
Gopal Prasad Agarwal, age 89 of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
Born Sept. 25, 1928, in Agra, India, Gopal was one of seven children born to the late Mathura Prasad and Shanti Devi Poddar Agarwal.
Gopal came to the United States on June 8, 1949, and began his undergraduate work at Tri State College in Indiana. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and earned his second master’s degree from Northwestern, where his chosen fields of study were mechanical engineering and metallurgical engineering.
After working in Pennsylvania for a number of years, Gopal relocated to the Tuscarawas Valley and began working for GE at Dover, where he expanded and honed his expertise, becoming the company expert in the metals tungsten and molybdenum.
Gopal enjoyed walking on the treadmill, exercising with friends at the Tuscarawas County YMCA, cooking and following the latest nutrition trends, but above all being with his family and sharing in activities and adventures with them.
Gopal will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years, Sally Winter Agarwal; their four children, Kamla (husband, Joy) Mukherjee of Wisconsin, Brij Agarwal of Pennsylvania, Dr. Indu (husband, David Patton) Agarwal of Solon and Maya Agarwal of Oregon; and seven grandchildren, Rohin, Neel, May, Bridget, Patrick, Fred and India.
Completing the family are his siblings, Kusum, Nayantara, Hari Mohan, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gopal was preceded in death by siblings, Saroj, Rani and Prahlad.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, where a light reception will immediately follow.
