Howard Snyder obituary

                        
Howard E. “Duke” Snyder, 89, of Dundee, died Jan. 14, 2010, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, Walnut Creek, following a period of declining health. Howard was born in Dundee to the late Charles and Rosa Snyder, and had been a life resident of the area. In 1983, he retired after 22 years of service from Warner Swasey, New Philadelphia. He had been a stock car race driver (#77 Ford) for many years, winning championships at Holmes Hilltop Speedway in the late ‘60s. He also raced at Lakeville and Wayne County Speedways. His greatest love after retirement was working on his tractors and taking care of his farm. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. Duke was a dairy farmer in his younger years and later raised beef cattle. He was a member of Army Navy Garrison, Beach City, and Zion Church of Winesburg. Surviving are his wife, Mary Snyder, whom he married in 1951; children, Linda (James) Kirkpatrick, Delmer (Brenda) Snyder, Roger Snyder, and Fred Snyder, all of Dundee, Elsie (Ronald) Balder of Winfield, and Kenny (Linda) Snyder of Beach City; 11 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Rachel, April, Katie, Esther, Leah, Melissa, Dan, Jared, Jake, Steve, and Jeff; three great-grandchildren, Landon, Destiny, and Abbygail; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Chasse, Brett, and Mytchell; and sister, Myra Oliver of Columbus. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Stephanie Butts Horn and Brian Balder; brothers, Irvin, Guy, Richard, and Alvin; and sister, Florence Boles. Services were held Jan. 18, 2010, at Zion Church of Winesburg. Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery, Winesburg.
