John E. Shetler, 88, of Sugarcreek died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home.
He was born April 8, 1925 in Holmes County to the late Eli J. and Malinda (Beachy) Shetler. He was a retired farmer and a member of the New Order Amish Church. He was married Nov. 28, 1946 to the former Sarah G. Schlabach and she died Sept. 30, 2006.
He is survived by his children, Gary Lee (Wilma) Shetler of Holmesville, John David (Karen) Shetler of Fresno, Linda Mae (Edwin) Miller of Winchester and Barbara Ann (Jonas) Troyer of Sugarcreek; 25 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Vernon (Angela) Shetler of Sugarcreek.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Saretta Yoder and five brothers, Nelson, Eli Jr., Ivan, Levi and Melvin.
Services will be held Friday, March 14 at 9 a.m. at the Jonas J. Troyer residence, 700 Pleasant Valley Road, Sugarcreek, with Bishop Ben Coblentz officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Cemetery in Walnut Creek Township, Holmes County. Friends may call any time at the Jonas J. Troyer residence. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
