John L. Scott, 72, of Bowerston passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a nine-month battle with ALS. Born Sept. 29, 1941 in Scio, he was a son of the late Harold and Cora (Pfeiffer) Scott. John was a 1959 graduate of Scio High School, a lifelong resident of Harrison County, and a devoted patriot who proudly served in the Army Reserves for many years. He spent a number of years working for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department before his 20-year career at Commonwealth Aluminum, retiring in 2005. In his spare time, John was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast who loved hunting and fishing until his health prevented him from continuing. On Nov. 30, 1963, John married the former Nancy E. Arnold with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage. He is also survived by their son, Jon D. Scott of Bowerston; a dear cousin who was like a sister to him, Pat Tepe of Tallahassee, Fla.; a niece and three nephews, Sean and Steve Scott, Chris Myer, and Cathy (Leon) Heavener and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Shirley Scott. Services for John, officiated by the Rev. Mr. Louis M. Primozic - deacon, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 3 in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home (www.lindseyfh.com) in Dennison. Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment was in Conotton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia 44663.
