Joseph Francis Ehrenbiet, Jr., 90, of Tippecanoe, passed away at Aultman Hospital in Canton Friday, March 14, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 11, 1923 in Cleveland, he was a son of the late Joseph Francis Ehrenbiet and Ann Irene (Savage) Ehrenbiet-Willis. A resident of the Tippecanoe area since 1979, Ehrenbiet had previously been a resident of Cleveland. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, having served with many different Army units in Europe and Africa. He earned two bronze stars for his service. Ehrenbiet was a captain with the City of Cleveland Fire Department on a snorkel truck for many years until his retirement Jan. 30, 1981. In his youth he developed a love of farming which he returned to in his retirement in Harrison County. He spent many happy hours on his farm riding on his tractor and when he couldn’t be outside, he enjoyed keeping in touch with family on the computer. He was a member of American Legion Post #34 in Cadiz. Locally, Ehrenbiet attended Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison, and he was a longtime member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Garfield. August 11, 1945 in Manchester, England, Ehrenbiet married the former Elsie Nickson with whom he enjoyed over 66 years of marriage until her passing Dec. 22, 2011. They are survived by two daughters, Rom (Susan) Muszynski of Tippecanoe and Sandra (Daniel) Benewiat of Hiram; grandchildren, Eva Marie Shafer and her companion, Domonik, John (Sheryl) Forest and Michael A. Kondelik and his wife, Erin; great-grandchildren, Aaron and Nicholas Shafer, Kristen and Stephen Forest, and Jordan and Lucas Kondelik; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Ehrenbiet; a half-brother, David Willis; and his stepfather, Clyde Willis. According to his wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation or service. He will be interred beside his beloved wife in Feed Spring Cemetery. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to American Legion Post #34, 336 East Spring Street, Cadiz 43907 and the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in lieu of flowers.
