Mabel Jean Miller

                        
Mabel Jean Miller, 87, recently of Walnut Creek and formerly of Benton, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek after an extended illness. Mabel was born Feb. 2, 1927 in Holmes County. She was the daughter of Eli J. and Mary Ann (Hershberger) Weaver. On August 10, 1946 she married Clayton W. Miller and he preceded her in death Oct. 7, 1998. She was a homemaker. Mabel and her husband were founding members of Gray Ridge Church where she was active in women’s groups and teaching Sunday School. She and Clayton enjoyed singing in a quartet together and she was known for her helpfulness, kindness and serving heart. Surviving are five children and their spouses, Ellis and Berdene Miller of Sarasota, Fla., Brian and Kathleen Miller of Canton, Kenneth and Ada Miller of Sarasota, Fla., Julia and Luther Proper of Millersburg, Beth and Brian Beechy of Winesburg; 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Heather and Kenny Dotson of Sarasota, Fla., Brian and Felina Miller of Whitesboro, N.Y., Matthew Miller of San Diego, Calif., Karissa and Dan Bartow of San Diego, Calif., Chadwick, Joshua and Kendrick Miller of Sarasota, Fla., Joshua and Jody Proper of Killbuck, Janna Proper Mast of Johnstown, Leah and Josh Stetter of Berlin, Krista Beechy of Rock Hill, S.C., and Emily, Megan and Clayton Beechy all of Winesburg; 11 great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Michael, Luke, and Blake Miller, Ethan, Evan, and Logan Bartow, Avery and Alexandria Proper, Kaidrie and Kason Mast; a sister, Joan Showalter of Wilmot, and a brother, Vernon (Bertha) Weaver of Millersburg. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Gerber, Anna Simpson and Lela Wengerd and three brothers, Ralph, Joe and John R. Weaver. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to LifeCare Hospice and to the entire staff at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, for all the love and care they showed toward Mabel. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Gray Ridge Church with pastor Ned Horsfall officiating. Burial was in Gray Ridge Cemetery. Friends called from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements were handled by Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.
