Mahlon R. Troyer died Friday, June 8, 2018, at the age of 67 years.

Mahlon will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 32 years, Patricia, and his children, Nathan (Cassie) Troyer, Drew Troyer, Jani (Eric) Hershberger, Tiffany (Andrew) Clark and Bethany Troyer.

Mahlon will be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren, Perrin, Ellis, Micaiah and Ariana (Rosie). He is survived by his sister Esther (Henry) Dieringer and brother Melvin Troyer.

Mahlon is preceded in death by his parents, the late Roman Troyer and Mary Ann (Troyer) Wengerd, as well as his stepfather, Joseph Wengerd.

Mahlon was a man of quiet strength. He didn’t demand attention. He was gentle, loving and constant, a listener, and he saw things that other people often ignored. He was an accomplished, self-taught artist who earned his living doing what he loved. He was a celebrated and respected sign painter and muralist, but his passion was portraiture of nature.

Mahlon used his gift of art as a mode of expression to help the viewer see the majesty of God’s creation. When Mahlon was not painting, he enjoyed spending time with his family, playing with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle, reading and spending time in nature, where he found inspiration.

Mahlon was a faithful man of God, and he expressed the heart of the Father to those with whom he came in contact. He served as an elder on the leadership team of Gateway Fellowship for many years. He will be remembered as one who fought the good fight, who ran the race and who kept the faith.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 10 a.m. at Gateway Fellowship, 1287 Massillon Road, Millersburg, and all are welcome to attend.

A private burial will be held at the Wilderness Center in Wilmot for immediate family only.  Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
