Margaret K. Scherer

                        
Margaret K. Scherer, 90, of Baltic went home to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, August 5, 2014 at the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a short illness. She was born Jan. 28, 1924 in Baltic. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Lint) Baab of Baltic. Margaret was born, raised and lived her entire life on the family farm. Margaret was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, gardening and making baked goods for her family. She worked on the county elections board for many years, was active in her local church and the Baltic American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Margaret was a long-standing servant of the Amish community where she catered to their transportation needs. A wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margaret will be sadly missed by her husband of 64 years, Glenn Alonzo Scherer whom she married April 8, 1950; children, Jim (Joyce) Scherer and Mark (Ann) Scherer both of Sugarcreek, Troy (Jo) Scherer of Dover, Tia (Matthew) Wyman of Columbus and Reba Scherer of Sugarcreek, and great-grandchildren, Justin Bailey and Ezekiel Wyman. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Fiat St. Peter’s United Church of Christ with pastors Dennis Landaw and Greg Clay officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Baltic. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home, 1018 W. Main Street, Sugarcreek and Saturday from 10-11 at the church prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia 44663 in Margaret’s honor.
