Mary Ann Haswell

                        

Mary Ann Haswell, age 96 of Strasburg, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover while in the care of Community Hospice.

Born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia on June 17, 1922, Mary was a daughter of the late Andrew and Suzanna Matusovic Perkopa.

At the age of 14, Mary immigrated to the United States. On Aug. 1, 1945, in New York, Mary married Eddie Ray Haswell, and together the couple shared 73 years of marriage and raised four children.

Mary was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Society and enjoyed being a member of the Canasta Group. She worked for the Chicken Manor at Strasburg, where she was a prep cook.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children, Vivian Becker and her companion, Danny, Judy of Strasburg, Arthur Haswell of Las Vegas, Eddie (Christine) Haswell of Strasburg, and Bart (Melissa) Haswell of Newcomerstown; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne Marino of Cornwall, New York; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bob Becker, and a brother-in-law, Leo Marino.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 4-7 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Fr. Jimmy Hatfield will lead a service celebrating Mary's life in the Dover Geib Center on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Aloysius Cemetery in Strasburg. All are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the hospitality room of the Dover Geib Center following services.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Strasburg boys high school baseball team, c/o Strasburg High School, 140 N. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg, OH 44680.
