OBITUARY | 2010-03-17

                        
Owen A. Ott, 85, of New Philadelphia, died March 14, 2010, at Union Hospital, Dover. A son of the late Albert and Cassie Ott, Owen was born August 8, 1924, on the family farm in the Oldtown Valley near Stone Creek. He graduated high school at Stone Creek and attended the former Stafford Business School, New Philadelphia. For 32 years, he was employed by the former Farm Bureau, now Agland Co-Op, where he held positions as office manager and credit manager. Additionally, he worked for R.M. Henning, Inc., and later operated his own cleaning service, which maintained office facilities as well as a daycare in the Canton area. A longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene, he was devoted to his lord and church. For 19 years, Owen and his wife, Grace, served as custodians for the church. Additionally, he served as the church’s treasurer for a number of years and was also willing to serve in other capacities when called upon by others. In his early years, Owen found joy in the out of doors, where he was often found splitting logs and preparing them for the family’s wood burner or spending time in the woods hunting small game such as rabbits and squirrels. Furthermore, he enjoyed jogging and walking, a passion that spanned nearly 40 years. Up until this past month he maintained a morning routine of walking New Towne Mall. Surviving are his wife, Grace Ott, whom he married in 1951; sons, Keith (Rose Ann) Ott of Sandusky, Jeffrey Ott of the home, and Greg (Carol) Ott of Sykesville, Md.; and five grandchildren, Kelly (Pat) Dewey, Nathan (Emily) Ott, Aaron Ott, Anneliese Ott, and Ryan Ott. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Ott. Services will be held March 18, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at the Linn-Hert-Geib chapel, with Dr. Fred Wallis officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. The family will receive friends March 17, from 5-7 p.m., at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia.
