Fern D. Wertz, 73, of Fresno, died March 22, 2010, at Oak Pointe Nursing Home, Baltic. Fern was born Oct. 29, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pa. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Pennsylvania, loved going to flea markets, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to travel through the mountains and spending time at the sea shore. Surviving are her husband, Benjamin Wertz, whom she married in 1957; children, Debbie Maurer of Sinking Springs, Pa., and Barry (Carol) Wertz of Parksburg, Pa.; sisters, Doris Tricowski of Pottstown, Pa., and Evelyn Herr of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather; twin brother, Frankie, and brother, Howard; and sisters, Elva and Lina. Services were held March 25, 2010, at Smith-Varns Funeral Home, Sugarcreek. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Fresno. Visit www.smithfuneral.com to share a memory and sign her online register.
