Gerald Ray “Jerry” Hootman Jr., of Coshocton, formerly of Newcomerstown, died March 22, 2010. Jerry was born March 1, 1950, in Coshocton, to Eva M. Hootman of Coshocton and the late Gerald R. Hootman Sr. He was a 1968 graduate of Coshocton High School and took courses at Ohio University, Zanesville campus. He was a retired employee of Express Packaging, Inc., (EPI), Newcomerstown, where he served as plant manager for a few years. Prior to this he was employed with the Ridgewood school system as an intervention specialist for a few years. He was also employed at the former Shaw-Barton Company, Coshocton, for over 29 years and served as the graphics manager of the press room. He was involved in union related issues and labor supporting systems as he served as the union shop steward and the workers’ compensation representative. He was a member of New Life Ministries, Coshocton, and was a volunteer with the church’s food pantry for several years. He enjoyed traveling, watching TV, gardening, bicycling, and cooking. Surviving are his wife, Cheryl L. Hootman, whom he married in 2004; sons, Brad (Julie) Albertson and Andrew Hootman, both of Coshocton, Jeff (Alison) Smith of Chillicothe, Scott (Tabitha) Hootman and Thomas E. Hootman, both of Clark County, and Travis Hootman, a student at Ohio Dominican College, Columbus; stepdaughter, Lori (Tony) Dallacheisa of Port Washington; five grandchildren, Cortney and Dakota Albertson of Coshocton, Luke and Addison Smith of Chillicothe, and A.J. Hootman of Clark County; siblings, Susie K. (Rod) Worthington and Jan L. (Bill) Sayre, both of Newcomerstown, Barbara J. Hootman and Carol A. Hootman, both of Coshocton, and Steve (Melody) Hootman, E. Ray Hootman, and Fred M. Hootman, all of Coshocton; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Graveside services were held March 26, 2010, at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown, with Pastor Mark Granger officiating. Family requests memorials be made in his name to the Food Pantry, New Life Ministries Church, 727 S. Seventh St., Coshocton 43812.
