Roger Allen Swinderman, 65, of Midvale, died unexpectedly April 5, 2010, at Union Hospital, Dover. A son of the late Willard and Frances Swinderman, Roger was born May 16, 1944, at Union Hospital. He graduated from Midvale High School in 1961 and enlisted with the U.S. Army, honorably serving his country while stationed in Germany. He was an electrician by trade and retired from Anderson Electric in 1985. Roger was a member of First United Church of Christ, New Philadelphia, as well as the Midvale VFW. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Brown, Indians, and Cavs. He enjoyed racing and enjoyed watching NASCAR races, watching races at Midvale Speedway and even racing drag cars himself. Roger will be sadly missed by his dear companions, his dachshunds, Spanky and Teabone. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ann Swinderman, whom he married in 1977; children, Renee (Roland) Phenney of Ocala, Fla., and Brian Swinderman of New Philadelphia; stepson, Daniel (Julie) Stemple of Owensboro, Ky.; two stepgrandchildren, Brenton and Drew Stemple; brother, Larry (Barbara) Swinderman of Dover; mother-in-law, Bertha Tatliak of New Philadelphia; sister-in-law, Christine (Jack) Sims of New Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Philip (Alma) Tatliak of Brandon, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Douglas Swinderman; and his father-in-law, Michael Tatliak. Memorial services will be held April 9, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia, with Revs. Jeffrey Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Inurnment will follow in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
