Edward S. Gump Jr., 68, of New Philadelphia, died April 26, 2010, at Union Hospital, Dover, following a period of declining health. A son of the late Edward S. Sr. and Zonabelle Gump Swinford, Ed was born Sept. 17, 1941, in Steubenville. He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Facility, Naples, Italy. He retired from Danner Press in 2002 and was a life member of the Dover VFW and a member of the Uhrichsville Moose Lodge. He enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Surviving are his wife, Doris Gump, whom he married in 1972; son, Doug Gump of New Philadelphia; daughter, Laura Gump of Akron; brothers, Robert (Lynn) Gump of New Cumberland and Richard Gump of New Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Swinford. Services will be held April 30, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia, with Rev. John Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Holmes Church Cemetery, where Dover VFW Post 3463 will render military honors.
