He had many interests in his life, but none more than his family, second would be his love for fishing, and third was his avid support of Dover football. Surviving are his wife, Flo Spangler, whom he married in 1984; children, Kimberly (Christopher) Alberts of New Philadelphia, Kara Spangler of Charleston, S.C., and Katie (Thomas) Gilmore and Kellie Spangler, both of Dover; sisters, Julie (Keith) Stoneman of Dover, Mari (Christopher) Zurcher of New Philadelphia, and JoAnn (Mark) Lorenz of Dover; a granddaughter, Maria Alberts; mother-in-law, Opal Perko of Wainwright; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Oscar. Services were held April 28, 2010, at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Michael Lowry officiating. Interment was in Dover Burial Park.
