Stanley Ray Maxwell, 73, of Reserve, Kan., formerly of Horton, Kan., died April 13, 2010, at the St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kan. Stanley was born Dec. 9, 1936, in Grove, W.Va., to the late Albert and Lillian Mae Maxwell. He was a hard worker and did roofing, painting, worked for Mac Frac Oil Company, and worked in the West Virginia coal mines. He also taught his sons his trade of work, and he taught granddaughter, Jessica, the roofing trade. They worked together as a team. He was a member of Willis Christian Church and the Killbuck VFW. He was deeply loved and will be sincerely missed by family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Mary Maxwell, whom he married in 1958; sons, James (Margie) Maxwell of Killbuck, Kenneth (Sherri) Maxwell of Highland, Kan., William Maxwell (Theresa) Maxwell of Hiawatha, Kan., and Edward (Betty Jo) Maxwell of Horton, Kan.; brothers, Jack Maxwell of Killbuck, Robert Maxwell of Mt. Vernon, and Willard Maxwell of Clark; sisters, Iris Werner of Danville, Mary Reed of Clark, and Barbara Booher of West Union, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gladys; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Maxwell; three grandsons, Adam, Andrew, and Austin Maxwell; sisters, Deloris Crider and Hilah Sponaugle; and brothers, Clarence, Edward, and Kenneth Maxwell. Services were held April 16, 2010, at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, Horton, Kan. Burial was in Horton City Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com.
