Lettie M. Wallace, 96, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Uhrichsville, died May 15, 2010, at Schoenbrunn Healthcare, New Philadelphia.Born Oct. 3, 1913, in Knowlton, Ky., Lettie was a daughter of the late William and Nannie Conway. She moved with her family from Kentucky when she was a small child, grew up in Dennison, and was a 1934 graduate of Dennison High School.
Lettie and her husband, Buss, lived in Uhrichsville until his retirement and then split their residence between Uhrichsville and Ruskin, Fla., for more than 30 years, driving home and back to Florida every Christmas to be with their families, and coming home in the spring just before their wedding anniversary. For many years, they enjoyed traveling together to many areas of the country. Lettie was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Dennison.
Lettie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. During WWII, she helped on the homefront by working at Timken Roller Bearing Co., Canton, and had worked at Alsco, Gnadenhutten, for a time during the ‘50s, as well.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley (Charles) Albaugh of New Philadelphia; son, Edwin (Judy) Wallace of North Canton; five grandchildren, Chuck (Janet) Albaugh, Mike (Carol) Albaugh, Lori (Tim) Davison, Lynda (Doug) Olsen, and Jennifer (Brooks) Bolyard; 16 great-grandchildren, Patrick, Erin, Alyssa, Bryan, Anna, Anthony, Joshua, Nathan, Emma, Jenna, Abigail, Aaron, Zane, Elizabeth, Miriam, and Carmen; sisters, Elsie (Joe) Wenger of Dennison and Ruby (Clyde) Arnold of Dover; sisters-in-law, Dodie (Harold) Conway of Uhrichsville, Frances (Bob) Wallace of Deersville, and Hazel (Charles) Wallace of Tuscarawas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur L. “Buss” Wallace, whom she married in 1936; brothers, Thaddeus, Henry, Elmer, and Harold Conway; sister, Bertha Sparks; and a granddaughter, Kristi Albaugh.
Services will be held May 19, 2010, at 11 a.m., at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with Rev. Bob James and Pastor Wanda Romig officiating. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home May 18, from 5-8 p.m.
