James “Jim” Dowain Stutzman, 56, of Gilbert, Ariz., died May 16, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer. Jim was born Sept. 19, 1953, in Millersburg, to Henry and the late Katie Stutzman. He graduated from Hiland High School and attended Hesston College in Hesston, Kan., and was a restaurant manager for 15 years, spending the last four years working in sales. He lived in the cities of Berlin, Wooster, and Bellville, Sarasota, Fla., and Gilbert, Ariz., where he attended Central Christian Church. Jim’s lifelong passion was baseball. He was a long-suffering fan of the Cleveland Indians, and most recently the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played baseball in high school and college, coached little league baseball, and even worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns. Surviving are his wife, Connie Stutzman, whom he married in 1976; children, Nicholas (Sara), Lindsay (Drew), and Joel; a granddaughter, Lena; and siblings, Ron, Karen, Robert, and Marcia. Services were held May 23, 2010, at Berlin Mennonite Church, with Rev. Bruce Hamsher officiating. Burial was in Berlin Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation in his memory.
