James W. “Chip” Mackey, 59, of New Philadelphia, died May 23, 2010, at his residence, following a period of declining health. A son of the late John and Mary Mackey, Chip was born July 29, 1950, at Union Hospital, Dover. A 1968 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, he entered into an apprenticeship with the Firestone Company, Akron, where he served as a precision machinist. He was later employed by Perkins Diesel, Canton, and retired from Commercial Honing, Dover, in the late ‘90s. Chip enjoyed spending time with his family and providing for them. He looked forward to gatherings in which they could spend time together and share in each other’s activities. He also enjoyed the open road and was a longtime motorcycle rider. Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Mackey, whom he married in 1971; sons, Christopher Mackey, Craig (Sara) Mackey, and Clay Mackey, all of Dover; sister, Patricia (Jim) Touse of Arkansas; brothers, Bob (Linda) Mackey of Sherrodsville and Mike Mackey of Dellroy; brother-in-law, James Maney of Dellroy; a granddaughter, Sylvia Mackey of Dover; brother-in-law, Pete (Cyndi) Moffitt of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Peg and Marilyn; and brothers, Chuck and Rick. In keeping with Chip’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will be conducted through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory, Dover.
