Donald F. Lafferty, 54, of Bolivar, died May 31, 2010, at Aultman Hospital, Canton, following a sudden illness.
A son of Doug Lafferty of Oklahoma City, Okla., and the late Janice Turner, Don was born Oct. 22, 1955, in Willard. He was a 1974 graduate of Willard High School and a graduate of the former Pioneer Joint Vocational School, Shelby. Following high school, he entered the U.S. Navy, where he served as a member of the Launch and Recovery Team aboard the USS Forrestall. He was charged with the duty of maintaining the catapult system aboard the ship. For many years, his career was in the automotive industry, and he served in a number of capacities with his employers.
Don was a muscle car fanatic, enjoyed watching the Military Channel, studied the science of aviation, and was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and sketching.
Surviving are his wife, Vicki Lafferty; son, Kayne Lafferty of the home; daughter, Jessica Lafferty of Norwalk; brother, Dr. Richard (Ellen) Lafferty of Mansfield Center, Conn.; sisters, Pam Lafferty of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jennie Turner (companion, Chuck Amos) of Lake Seneca, Lisa Wilber of Sandusky, and Kim (Randy) Branham and Kellie Fletcher both of Willard; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Fred and Jennie Pacey; and paternal grandparents, Ruben and Polly Lafferty.
In keeping with Dons wishes, there will be no public visitation. Services were held June 3, 2010, at First Church of God, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Matt Roe officiating.
