Edwin J. Spidell, 89, of Dover, died May 28, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born August 7, 1920, in Strasburg, Edwin was a son of the late Ross and Grace Spidell. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Bolivar, and the Charles Hofer Post of the Strasburg American Legion. He proudly served his country with the 6th Infantry during WWII and retired from the Strasburg Post Office, where he was a rural rout carrier for 30 years. He was the last founding member of the Strasburg Stock Car Race Track, which was created to benefit Strasburg Franklin Park.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Spidell, whom he married in 1941; daughters, Sandra (Forrest) Norris of Bolivar and Sally (Louie) Dreher of Strasburg; sons, Terry (Elaine) Spidell of Strasburg and Tom (Judy) Spidell of Dover; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Robert Spidell, preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held June 7, 2010, at 7 p.m., at Faith Baptist Church, Bolivar, with Pastors Floyd Stanfill and Ed Scaglione officiating.
