Leonard “Lenny” Gene Morris, 74, of New Philadelphia, died June 4, 2010, at Union Hospital, Dover, following a brief illness. A son of the late Thomas A. and Margaret E. Morris, Lenny was born August 29, 1935, in New Philadelphia. He attended the former Jewett High School and returned to the area in 1953, where he worked as an industrial and residential electrician. For more than 30 years, he was employed by the former I.F. Ridge Tool and worked for 12 years at Marlite. He also spent a number of years teaching adult education classes at Buckeye Career Center. Lenny served as an active member of First Christian Church, New Philadelphia, The Wilderness Center, Wilmot, and the Norma Johnson Center, Dover. Additionally, he was an avid golfer and also enjoyed painting in all mediums, carving, and scrimshawing. Surviving are his wife, Sara Martha Morris, whom he married in 1952; children, Thomas Morris of New Philadelphia and Leonora (James) Wernecke of Lexington; sisters, Charolette (Lavern) Riggenbach of Rootstown, Sylvia (Jerry) Kelly of Florida, Karen (David) McKay and Marcia Savage, both of Ravenna, and Mary Jo (Dave) DeRemer of Arizona; sister-in-law, Anna Mary Hadorn of Dover; six grandchildren, Lucas Morris, Andrew Morris, Candace Wernecke, Meredith Wernecke, Dantan Wernecke, and Stephen Wernecke; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Morris; and brother, William Morris. Memorial services will be held June 8, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at First Christian Church, New Philadelphia, with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Inurnment will follow in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Following services, the family would like to invite guests to join them in the church social hall, where a meal and fellowship will be shared. The family will receive friends June 7, from 5-8 p.m., at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia.
