Raymond Max Regula, 82, of Dover, a longtime resident of Sugarcreek, died June 10, 2010, at Union Hospital, Dover, following a long illness. Born Nov. 16, 1927, in Baltic, Max, as he was usually known, graduated from Baltic High School and entered the service of his country in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in occupied Japan. Following his discharge, he worked for his father at Regula’s Sunoco, Sugarcreek, later purchasing the business. In 1964, he sold the Sunoco station and was employed by Eckert Ford Sales, Sugarcreek, retiring in 1992 as service manager. In his retirement, he worked part-time for Schrock’s, Walnut Creek. Max was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sugarcreek. He enjoyed basketball and refereed, kept score, and was a time-keeper for Garaway High School. He also liked to play church league dart ball. Additionally, Max and his wife, Virginia, loved to travel, taking annual family vacations in the summer and visiting nearly every state in the union. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Regula, whom he married in 1957; son, Steven (Donna) Regula of Dover; stepson, David (Emily) Whiting of New Philadelphia; three granddaughters, Heather (David) Rowe, Melissa (Ben) Sprouse, and Bonny (James) Anderson; a great-grandson, Logan Rowe; sisters, Arlene Regula and Gertrude (Louis) Meitzler, both of Baltic; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Jerry Whiting; and brothers, Harry, Glenn, and Robert Regula. A time to gather and share memories will be held June 12, 2010, from 2-5 p.m., at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover.
