Gene A. Mears, 81, of Dover, died peacefully June 19, 2010, at Park Village Health Care Center, following a long battle with cancer. Born Feb. 14, 1929, in Strasburg, Gene was the son of the late Fred and Blanche Mears. He retired in 1984 from LTV Steel (formerly Republic Steel Company), Massillon, following 37 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Patricia “Pat” Mears; and sons, Jim (Karen) Mears of Columbus and Scott Mears of the home. Gene will be remembered as having dedicated his life to his family. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Services will be held June 23, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Dr. William C. Haggis officiating.
