Ellen H. Wheeler of New Philadelphia died August 23, 2010, at Union Hospital, on her 90th birthday. Born August 23, 1920, in Davis, W.Va., Ellen was a daughter of the late John and Edith Harsh. She was a teacher who retired from the former IV North Elementary School. She had also taught at Strasburg Elementary, Crestview Schools in Ashland, and the William Donley School System in East Lansing, Mich. Ellen was a member of New Philadelphia Church of the Brethren and attended Jerusalem Church. She attended Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, Va., Manchester College, North Manchester, Ind., Bethany Bible Training School, Chicago, Ill., and received her bachelor’s degree from Malone College, Canton. Surviving are her husband, Wayne E. Wheeler; daughters, Dawn Roberts of Delaware, Karren Tinius of Maricopa, Ariz., and Becky (James) Perkins of Baltic; sisters, Genevieve Dixon of Bridgewater, Va., and Ila Rayl of Martinsburg, W.Va.; brother, Ellis Harsh of Bridgewater, Va.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Harsh; and a grandchild. Services will be held August 27, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Jerusalem Church, with Dr. Terry Downin and Pastor Max Canfield officiating. Interment will be in Jerusalem Church Cemetery.
