Samuel Charles Wagner, 77, of Wooster, died July 5, 2011, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a brief illness.
Sam was born July 11, 1933, in Wooster, to the late Lloyd and Lillian Wagner. He was a 1951 graduate of Wooster High School and served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Korean War in the 3rd Naval Construction Battalion stationed in the Philippines.
On Sept. 15, 1957, he married Shirley C. Walkerow. She survives.
He was a printing pressman most of his life and retired from the Wayne County maintenance department in 1995. He enjoyed being a HAM radio operator for many years, loved reading and writing poetry, and most of all spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Samuel of Sarasota, Fla., and Daniel (Dawn) of Wooster; sister, Barbara (Larry) Yates of Massillon; and his faithful feline companion, Sudie.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Laurie Ann; and sister, Carolyn.
It was his wishes for cremation. Private graveside services were held in Overton Cemetery, with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating. Military rites also took place.
