Patricia A. “Pat” Hennis, 85, of Dover, died July 28, 2011, at Aultman Hospital, Canton, following a brief illness. Born Jan. 21, 1926, in Canton, Pat was the daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel Shurtz. She was an original licensed administrator and operator of the Hennis Care Centre, Dover. Her family has owned and operated the center since 1947. Pat was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Dover, since 1951. She was also a member of the former Tuscarawas Order of Eastern Star, Dover, Triosis Ladies Guild, Canton, and the Ohio Healthcare Association, and was recently honored with a scholarship in the name of Harry and Patricia Hennis by the association. She enjoyed ceramics, was a beautiful seamstress, and loved listening to big band music. She also looked forward to playing euchre with friends in her euchre club. She was a 1944 graduate of Canton Lincoln High School. Pat will be sadly missed by her children, Kathy (Keith) Marburger of Dover, David (Patty) Hennis of Fairlawn, Paula (Dr. David) Sickinger of Dover, and Ellen Hennis of Cuyahoga Falls; and grandchildren, Matthew and Cara Marburger, Andrew, Megan, and Brian Hennis, Daniel, Christina, and Sammy Sickinger, and Maria Schwabland. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Harry D. Hennis; and brother, Dan Shurtz. Pat’s life will be celebrated August 2, at 11 a.m., at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Richard Plant officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Dover Burial Park.
