John P. Stanton, 55, of Orrville, died August 26, 2011, at his residence, following a courageous battle with cancer. John was born Sept. 16, 1955, in Orrville, the son of Mary and the late John P. Stanton. He was united in marriage to Diana Fiscus on April 30, 1977. She survives. John was a 1974 graduate of Orrville High School, where he was active in football and track, and attended Clarion University, Pennsylvania, for two years. He was the former owner of D&L Pizza and Hometown Deli, Orrville, and was currently one of the co-owners of Custom Surface and Design, Kidron. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Orrville, and was the recipient of the President’s Club Award of Sysco International. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He especially enjoyed fishing and his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Diana, he is survived by a son, Chad (Jamie) Stanton of Orrville; grandchildren, Colby and Chase Stanton; mother, Mary Messenger of Orrville; sisters, Vicki (Bob) Kimmell of Nevada, Jackie (Jerry) Plank of New Philadelphia, and Rhonda Ramsdell and Terri (Kevin) Hopton, both of Orrville; brothers, Larry (Kim) Stanton of Arizona, and Joe (Mary) Messenger, Alan (Jackie) Messenger, and Kelly (Polly) Messenger, all of Orrville; father- and mother-in-law, Donald and Joan Fiscus of Orrville; special cousin, Marianne Rousseau of Wooster; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Stanton; and grandmother, Mary Lehman. Graveside services will be held August 31, at 2 p.m., in Crown Hill Cemetery, Orrville, with Fr. Christopher Trenta officiating. Family and friends are invited to a meal at St. Agnes Catholic Church immediately following graveside services. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to services. Auble Funeral Home, Orrville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
