Dorothy June Benedum, 86, of Uhrichsville, died Sept. 14, 2011, following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 21, 1924, in Dennison, Dorothy was a daughter of the late William and Della M. Carr. A lifelong resident of the Twin City area, she was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1942. She was currently a member of Park Christian Church, Dennison, and had previously been a longtime member of Uhrichsville First United Methodist Church. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, she worked for the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce and the Tuscarawas County Board of Realtors for many years. She was very active in the PTA, Claymont Band Mothers, and the Dennison Alumni Association, and was an avid Claymont sports fan, especially of the basketball and football teams. On Oct. 1, 1946, Dorothy married H.T. “Tom” Benedum, with whom she enjoyed 33 years of marriage until his passing in 1980. They are survived by daughters, Sheila Benedum of New Philadelphia and Lynn L. (Dan) Angelozzi of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, Ierlee (Jim) Wozniak of Strongsville and Danielle (Seth) Lurie of Dover; great-grandchildren, Tyson and Jackson Lurie and Marissa Wozniak; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and best friend, Mildred P. White. Services were held Sept. 19, at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with Rev. Steven R. Bailey officiating. Interment was in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport. Those wishing to honor Dorothy’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Claymont Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
