Ruth P. Mencer, 76, of Coshocton, died Dec. 28, 2011, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, following a lengthy illness.
Born March 15, 1935, in Bethany, W.Va., Ruth was a daughter of the late Robert James Claude and Frances Priscilla Gatts. On May 1, 1959, she married Klines M. Mencer, with whom she enjoyed nearly 44 years of marriage until his passing in 2003.
Ruth devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who loved caring for her family. She spent many happy times visiting with her family and friends and especially enjoyed the time that she spent with her grandchildren. She also liked to listen to country and gospel music, and she was an avid collector of Indian dolls and curios.
Ruths surviving family includes her children, Jim (Goldie) Gatts of Uhrichsville, Mary Mencer of Wainwright, Jane (Jim) Sutton of Roswell, Janet Beitzel of New Philadelphia, David (Rebekah) Mencer of Uhrichsville, Joanna Ohler of Wainwright, and John Mencer of Coshocton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Almack of Coshocton; sister-in-law, Dolores Finnell of Coshocton; brother-in-law, Francis Mencer of Coshocton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, George Earl, John, and Bill Gatts.
Services were held Dec. 30, at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison. Interment was in Coshocton County Memory Gardens.
