OBITUARY

                        
Curtisa Couts Curtisa Ann Couts, 80, of New Philadelphia, died Jan. 8, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she had received her care following a two-year illness. Tisa, as her friends and family knew her, was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Emerson, Jefferson County, to the late Curtis A. and Sarah Ann Patterson. A 1947 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Tisa enjoyed traveling with her husband, the companionship of her dog, reading, sewing, cooking, and sharing good times with friends and family. She was baptized at First Christian Church, Cadiz, and also served many years as a teacher at Strasburg United Methodist Church. She was a member of First Christian Church, New Philadelphia. Surviving are her husband, W. Dean Couts, whom she married in 1954; daughter, Elizabeth Anne (Michael) Slater of Strasburg; son, James Couts of New Philadelphia; sister Sarah Lou (James) Schussler of Ashland; two grandsons, Alex Couts and Brian Slater; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Adam Dean Couts, who died in infancy in 1962; and brothers, George Patterson, Oscar Patterson, and Lloyd Patterson. Services were held Jan. 12, 2010, at First Christian Church, New Philadelphia, with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia.
