OBITUARY

                        
Charles J. Riley, 83, of Uhrichsville, died March 1, 2010, at his daughter’s home, following a short illness. Born June 14, 1926, near Bowerston, Charles was a son of the late Charles Elmer “Chuck” and Mildred Riley. He was lifelong resident of the area who had worked in the local coal industry for many years until his retirement from Midvale Coal in the late ‘70s. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of the former Uhrichsville Lighthouse. He enjoyed farming and remodeling homes, and he loved to fish and travel in his spare time. Charles was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who especially enjoyed the time that he spent with his three great-grandsons. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Faith McDaniel (companion, Spencer Ladrich); three grandchildren, Tresa Ann (Joe) Berndt of Dennison, Heidi Lynn (Christopher) Baughman, and Daniel Riley of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Joey, Stevie, and Mathew Berndt of Dennison; sister, Shelva (Don) Mitchell of Uhrichsville; brothers, Ernie (Lorie) Riley and Gerald (Carolyn) Riley, both of Uhrichsville, and John (Alice) Riley of Dennison; sister-in-law, Frieda Riley; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise Riley, whom he married in 1944; stepmother, Leta Riley; sons, Danny and Rocky Riley; brother, Glenn Riley; and a sister and brother-in-law, Artie Jane and Ted Caldwell. Services will be held March 4, 2010, at 1 p.m., at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with Pastor Bill Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Tunnel Hill Cemetery near Bowerston. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home March 3, from 5-8 p.m. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution may do so to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or American Cancer Society.
