OBITUARY

                        
David E. Kandel, 88, of Berlin, died March 2, 2010, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, Walnut Creek, following an extended illness. David was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Millersburg, to the late John E. and Eva Kandel. He had worked for Berlin Wood Products and Kandel’s IGA, Berlin, and from 1952-62, he was a farmer in Conneaut Lake, Pa. He was a member of Berlin Mennonite Church and the Berlin Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Sarah Kandel, whom he married in 1996; children, Sharon (Cal) Yoder of Walnut Creek, Clell (Lois) Kandel of Nappanee, Ind., Karl (Mary Lou) Kandel of Sarasota, Fla., Tony (Denise) Kandel of Walnut Creek, Earl Kandel of Loudonville, Gwen (Brian) Hamsher of Sugarcreek, and Brenda (Scott) Patterson and Wes (Kathy) Kandel, both of Berlin; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Reuben (Esther) Kandel of Berlin; sister-in-law, Marilyn Kandel of Berlin; and brother-in-law, Jay (Herma) Miller of Orrville. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Kandel, whom he married in 1943; brothers, Homer and Marion Kandel; sister, Velma Miller; and an infant grandson. Services will be held March 6, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Berlin Mennonite Church, with Pastor Ernie Hershberger officiating. Burial will be in Berlin Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Arrangements are being handled by Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg. David loved his wife and family but most of all he loved Jesus and wanted everyone to follow in Jesus’s footsteps. The family would like to thank Walnut Hills Nursing Home for their outstanding care for David during the last year.
