Richard Allen Maurer
Richard Allen Maurer, age 69 of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at his home, following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Max and Ruby (Froelich) Maurer, Richard was born Nov. 1, 1948, in Dover.
Richard graduated from Dover High School in 1966. He then continued his education at the Ohio State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology. He also served his country for seven years as a member of the Army Reserves.
Along with his late wife, Karen, Richard owned and operated Heaven’s Depot, a Christian book and gift store, at several locations throughout Montgomery, Alabama. He enjoyed collecting rocks and studying astronomy.
Richard is survived by his children, Kimberly Maurer and Kevin Maurer; his brothers, Cliff (Sue) Maurer and Mike (Marsha) Maurer; and four nieces, Megan Maurer, Michelle Lea, Christie Maurer and Jackie Maurer.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen Sue (Freeman) Maurer; and an infant brother, Max Maurer, Jr.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services, and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
