Richard L. Hofstetter
Richard L. Hofstetter, age 90 of Smithville and formerly of Orrville, Dalton and Kidron, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Richard was born Feb. 18, 1928, to Reuben and Elma (Amstutz) Hofstetter on the family farm south of Dalton, Ohio. He grew up enjoying the life on the farm and attended Dalton High School. He married Mary L. (Eberly) Hofstetter on May 16, 1948, in Mary's home near Dalton. He worked as an engineer for Kidron Body Co. for 44 years, retiring in 1991.
Richard was a member of Kidron Mennonite Church. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, family camping, boating and flying remote-control airplanes.
Surviving are two sons, Michael D. (Patricia) Hofstetter of Orrville and Don (Brenda) Hofstetter of Westerville; step-grandson, Jordan Levey; step-granddaughter, Emily (Matt) Crowe; step-great grandchildren, Olivia and Porter Crowe; many brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and close friend, Joyce Avey of Wooster.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife; both parents; step-mother, Ida Hofstetter; brother, Ben Hofstetter; and sister, Ellen Lehman.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 at Auble Funeral Home, 512 E. Oak St., Orrville, with Pastor Carl Wiebe officiating. Burial will take place at Kidron Mennonite Cemetery in Kidron.
Friends may call on Monday at Auble Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m.
